Entenza Residence
Harwell Harris design recently restored by Michael Folonis
Visiting the Entenza Residence on day one of the CA Boom II home tour came as a surprise. It was not listed on the tour handouts so it was an exciting stop on the tour. The house was originally designed for John Entenza by architect Harwell Harris. According to Michael Folonis, the architect who handled the restoration project of this home in 1998, it is quite possible that Entenza's Case Study program was conceived at this home.

Built in 1937, the house is 850 square feet and features a spacious living area, bedroom and kitchen. The bathroom has a recessed bathtub/shower with the floor tile continuing into the tub. The bedroom appears much larger than it actually is thanks to a half-circle of floor to ceiling bow windows overlooking the rugged hillside.

The house takes full advantage of exterior spaces with a spacious rooftop deck accessed via a steel staircase off the main entrance. A second deck in the back extends out from the living room. A rounded driveway with a covered carport prevents anyone from having to negotiate a car back out onto the narrow road.
