BattersbyHowat
British Columbian Modernism
We’ve always been impressed with this well known Canadian firm based in Vancouver. A partnership between David Battersby and Heather Howat, the collaborative practice draws on backgrounds in architecture, landscape architecture, and interior design to create a distinctive modern vocabulary all their own.

There is a certain "look" to their work which comes from a rigorous design philosophy. Each project is a unique representation and expression of their quiet yet meticulously conceived design language.

We highly recomend that you browse through the project images on their website... truly outstanding work. Go... now!

Guh.
My soul is weary. These poor eyes have seen enough of this "modern" material mix: skins of glass, concrete and light-stained wood hanging from an exposed metal frame. It's as fresh as the "Home Hearth Red #3" brick siding on the McMansions across town. I'm not offering any alternatives; I just don't have a date tonight-- you must suffer, too. Guh.

Lacking Knowledge
"create a distinctive modern vocabulary all their own.- There is a certain "look" to their work which comes from a rigorous design philosophy. Each project is a unique representation and expression of their quiet yet meticulously conceived design language." The above quote is completely false. If you are not a professional in this field then that is what you might say. If you are- you will know that never there is nothing significant and new to any of their work. Conservative, eclectic, copycat yes. Nice work -comfortable definitely. But "distinctive look" no. I have to agree with the previous comment. Boring. Modernism was born in the early 1910's, died in the 70's and born again in the 90's. Rehashing is often a sign of inability to create.

Who hurt you?
Ah, another bitter architect. Welcome KS. I used to be a professional in "the" field. Thankfully, I am no longer. I understand your pain, I really do... but I don't feel it anymore. Freedom.

Battersby life
I live in a Battersby home. It's super awesome. I live in my home because it is really well thought out and I like the way it looks. That's all. Lacking knowledge? That there is a higher sense of what is and is not the right way for something to look is always the argument of unemployed architects and other design "professionals." It's this arrogance and downright insecure lameness that will keep these losers living in their self-imposed personal hell. If people like it, and it delivers over time, it is good. Architects can kiss my ass.
