MD 100 Shed
The first construction we've seen of an MD 100
When we first saw the MD 100 by Edgar Blazona in ReadyMade magazine, we were intrigued by its simplicity and clean modern lines. Here was a simple structure that just about any person handy with a hammer and saw could build in their spare time using simple off-the-shelf materials. Kent Holden is one such person and while he chose to stray from the plans and alter the structure to meet his needs, the results are still quite impressive.
"Here are a couple of shots of my new shed. I haven't put the Plexiglas in yet but it will go across the top and down the right side as in the original plan. As you can see I changed the front to a sliding door and put a small door on the left side. I didn't put any interior panelling in (it's just a shed) and by changing the plywood from 3/4 to 5/8 I think it cost me less than $1000 for the whole project. If you take a look at Lowes or Home Depot I'm sure you'll agree you don't get much of a shed for that price."
Looking good, Kent!

Have you built or do you know anyone that has also built an MD 100? If so, drop us a line and tell us about it.

It's a great copy!
I thought you did a great job creating a copy of the original. Perhaps you should plant a few ferns around the perimeter to futher emulate the original idea. I've seen great innovative home designs on this sight, pehaps we should turn those into storage sheds as well.

Quite an accomplishment Mrs. Holden!
It's amazing that you replicated thec original so successfully and made it so functional. I do agree with D. Dennis' comments above though, planting some ferns and other foliage would really spruce things up and make it more inviting!

Finally, a cool looking shed!
I have been looking for weeks for a cool shed like this one and I finally came to the realization I wasn't going to find what I wanted so I would have to build it. I've never build anything like this but I'm pretty handy. I'm going to give it a try. Thanks for the inspiration! Eric

Foundation & Misc.
HI. Great shed! I have a lot of miscellaneous questions. Please tell me more about how you established your shed's foundation. It appears to be leveling rocks and cinder blocks. How did you run electricity out to the shed? How long did the shed take you to build? Did you have assistance? Any advice on how to stagger the project in to manageable stages?

Do you know of anyone who has built one of these sheds in Florida? We are curious if they meet Florida's building codes. We have strict codes here due to hurricanes. Please advise. Thank you.

Your mods
After seeing this here, I've ordered and received the plans from ready made. Any chance you feel like outlining specifics as to your modifications? I want to copy your design not theirs :) --Alex

Inspiring Utility
Kudos to you for bring the utilitarian function into what is a wonderful design. I would love to see some new pics of it as finished, lovingly worn in shed. While the edges seem to be supported with blocks, the actual floor looks to be poured concrete? You mentioned you would be filling the rest out with plexi, I would be curious as to how you feel about that with hindsight being 20/20? Thanks for sharing your clever modifications.

Is there anywhere else to purchase the plans? Readymade has changed their site and isn't selling them at this time.

Amazing
Way to make us lay people know it can be done, and not just a pipe dream. Anyone that's finished have any notes to share. The plans, as mentioned are a little sparse. Also, be interested in a educated guess as to how hard this is to finish...expert, moderate, enthused beginner? Thanks.

MD100
We are in the process of building this shed right now. I find that the measurements in the plans don't work- the frame measures out perfectly as do the plywood pieces, but there is barely 1/2 inch on the perimeter of the plywood to attache to the frame!!! I have measured and re-measured. This morning we gave up and bought new plywood. I would also suggest just pouring a concrete foundation- those piers don't look so hot- we made a foundation out of concrete blocks (due to a funky landscape issue) and concrete, it was a witch to level (as are the piers). So far, I kinda wish we had just looked at the design and built from scratch, these plans aren't very helpful, nor do they explain a lot of what should be done. Sorry, ReadyMade.

costs
Also, the cost of the materials is FAR more than $1500.

Hi, I would love to hear more about the plans and your problems building. Many, well tons, of people have built these and I have never heard this problem. I would love to help out if needed. Also, If using the piers, It is best to either level the ground or pour a small level pad for these to sit on. Also, the $1500 material amount was the cost of the materials when we built the first building. I assume things might have gone up a bit. Keep in mind that glass and or plexi glass prices vary quite a bit. Lastly, Please send images of your MD100'S to edgar@elevatehome.com. I am trying to keep track of buildings which have been built.
