Andy Goldsworthy
Land/Earth artist
We came across this website about artist Andy Goldsworthy by a student in the Environmental Analysis program at Pomona College. We have always admired Mr. Goldsworthy's work, so this seemed to be the perfect follow up to our first art category post from yesterday.

Goldsworthy makes site-specific pieces of art using only the materials and tools found on the site where he is working. We were drawn to respect for nature and the sense of place inherent in Goldsworthy's art. Most of his work is created in isolated natural site, but he has also done works in urban environments as well as installation piece such as the current exhibit at the Met in New York. An important aspect of his work is the passage of time and the decay of his art by the forces of nature.

Andy Goldsworthy
I have had the honor and priviledge to have worked with Andy in Aspen. He is by far one of the most amazing artists of our time. He is currently working in collaboration with Jeff Berkus Architects on a wall for the Aspen Institute (Andy designed the wall and Jeff the building). The wall will go through the building. It will be a site to see.

Inspired by Andy Goldsworthy, we have created five interesting rock columns in our back yard garden which we refer to as The Green Room. Check out our photo journal at http://www.danherbert.com/rock_columns/index.html Many thanks, Dan

Goldsworthy film!
I've just studied Andy Goldsworthy for the inspiration of a building design in my degree, in which I managed to obtain the DVD 'Rivers and Tides'. Directed by Thomas Riedelsheimer, its feature film is 90mins of beautiful and sometimes painstaking footage of Andy through a year in his life. It features his Storm King sculpture park curvy wall, along with other recognisable sculptures using ice, leaves and stone. I found it really insightful to listen to him explain his artistic philosophy first hand, and I would recommend it to people interested in Goldsworthy on any level. A note though, I found it quite hard to get hold of in the shops, I eventually found 1 copy in a library 20 miles away! But you can get it online - it was produced in Germany so many copies are from America and thus may need US DVD readable player!
