Greenwood Gardens
Historic New Jersey landscape is being restored
© Greenwood Gardens"Greenwood Gardens is a new nonprofit, public garden located in Short Hills, New Jersey, approximately twenty miles west of New York City. Since the early twentieth century, the twenty-two acre Greenwood Gardens has been a private retreat of formal Italianate gardens graced with colorful Arts and Crafts tiles, mossy pebbled walks and vistas stretching into the lush surroundings of South Mountain Reservation."

"Greenwood Gardens adjoins South Mountain Reservation, a 2100-acre land preserve to the west, developed by the Olmsted firm in the early twentieth century. With an elevation of approximately 440 feet, views from the Greenwood Gardens encompass this gently rolling topography. A network of nineteenth-century stone walls crosses the forested hillsides of the reserve suggesting an earlier agricultural use. The property was undoubtedly a part of this agrarian landscape prior to its use as a residence."
