CA Boom II Day Three

Day three wrap up
Another day at CA Boom and another day of home tours. I always figured that most people prefer to save the best for last, but today's selection of home tour residences, while featuring some nice homes, was lacking when compared to days one and two. The standout home today had to be the Ehrlich Residence (featured at right) by John Friedman and Alice Kimm. The Kumagai Residence, by Glen Irani, while only about 80% complete, promises to be quite the exciting residence when it's complete. I have a feeling we'll see this on next year's tour.

The surprise residence of the day was the Church/Loft from Ann Troutman and Aleks Istanbullu. This former church has been renovated to include loft space. The Bloomfield Residence from Built was the let-down of the day. After viewing the portfolio Built was displaying back at the convention, I was looking forward to an exciting home from them. Instead, this home's interior, with its arched doorways and contiguous space defined by shallow arches and columns seemed more at home in an Mediterranean McMansion housing tract than in a modern home. Richard Sherman's 3-in-1 house appeared to be a work in progress. Other guests on the tour were overheard reminding their friends to be careful not to brush up against anything for fear of snagging an article of clothing. It was somewhat rough around the edges. The sunken kitchen area was interesting as it made use of an extension of the main level concrete floor to create counter space. Interior photos were not allowed so you'll have to take my word for it. But don't worry you didn't miss much.
