Castelo Branco Chair

The chair on rails
The Castelo Branco Chair was designed to compliment the Castelo Branco project. The Castelo Branco project will be located in Portugal and is being designed by Josep Lluis Mateo of Map Architects. The chair itself is a prototype and part of a larger collection of semi-mobile furniture designed specifically for outdoor environments.

Castelo Branco Project:
"In the Urbanistic Plan of Castelo Branco, the Largo da Devesa park with its former cavalry barracks is intended to become a major civic centre. On the Slopes of the Castle Mount, the project uses the topography to set transverse strips, in order to obtain a central project space whose gentle slopes give rise to a nearly natural water lake, in front of the Cultural Centre.

The Cultural Centre will house an Auditorium, a Contemporary Art Centre and a Library. The body of the building is designed hanging between two feet, with the vertical communications, while liberating on the ground a covered square to be used as an ice skating rink" (Josep LluĂs Mateo, from Memory of the competition, 2001).
