These people really know their stuff. I initially tried dealing with two other companies, but they were not very helpful, and that's putting it nicely. From the moment I contacted BP - Bryce Parker Co., I knew I was going to buy their door. They explained and showed me all my options, and helped me with every aspect of the design. My General Contractor was impressed, and ultimately I was delighted with the quality and beauty of the final product. Apparently, BP is the only Glass Garage Door Company that uses stainless steel hinges and hardware. This was a big plus since I used this door for a live/work space. I recommend them highly.

BP quoted our 1-car garage door, 7'x9', to be $7000 --not including $800+ to brace/prep the frame & supporting structure --as they charge contractor's rates for anything extra.

I just happened to come across this site and was curious about the price. I called BP to get a quote on (2) glass garage doors measuring 7 ft tall x 9 ft wide and was sent a bid for less than $7,000 for both doors. It was half what I was expecting based on the previous comment by Kendal. Although $7000 is not cheap, I was so relieved that these doors are still attainable on a small remodel budget. In addition to the quote, BP sent me many addresses of their door in my zip code 90210. I went to see them for myself and thought the doors looked great, the quality is outrageously good, and my doors are currently on order. I'm sure I will be getting many compliments and can't wait to get them installed.

I thought for a second about getting a standard garage door, then I saw one that had a small row of glass at the top, and was not impressed. It looked cheap and flimsy. It took me forever to decide what to do, because I really wanted something with alot of glass in it but did not like the ones I saw. Then one evening while in Pasadena, I saw a BP glass garage door and fell in love with its lines, color, and design. It was used in a restaurant and I thought maybe they would do doors for my house. I found them at www.glassgaragedoor.com. Called the next day and got a quote. Very nice people, and although a bit expensive compared to standard doors, well worth the price. They were able to match the door to an exotic green color that I have on my house. I only waited 3 weeks, and also got a matching font door from them. I LOVE THEM!!!!!

I have been searching for the perfect garage door for quite some time and am quite embarassed to admit that I even stooped so low as to pay a visit to my local Home Depot before I stumbled upon this website. Honestly, I was planning on spending far more money than the $16K I was quoted to replace the garage doors on my designer estate located in the affluent community of 90210. After installing the doors I have received numerous compliments on how well they look and how much my neighbors enjoy being able to view my exotic sports car collection from the street. The gardener said "I ain't never seen no fancy car like that before! Is that a spaceship? I never known you owned nuthin' like that before you'd put them doors in". Yes the only thing more magnificent than seeing my car collection is the brief view I get of my self in the reflection of the glass as I walk by...although it is a bit uncomforting the way it temporarilly takes my breath away. These doors are truly fantastic. I LOVE THEM!!!!!!

Quality! Quality! Quality!

There is a BIG difference when it comes to Glass Garage Doors!

I just built a 9 unit Loft project in Hollywood were I used these doors in each living room space. I was realy worried about the doors leaking, but was happy to hear that these guys have completed over 20 loft projects in the LA, CA area that turned out great. I got other prices like others above and realized, the difference is like a Volkswagen vs. a Rolls Royce. I saw them for myself and compared to the Clopay and Overhead brand, (which I have used before and had nothing but warrantee problems) neither was even close in quality to the bp door. Also, my Architect compared the specifications and recommended the bp brand as well, as they have been manufactiuring these doors for 55 years. They also have stainless steel hardware that was imortant to my interior design. Architects don't usually care about money, they just try to find the best product for the job! This was an important project, so I used the BEST. I bought factory direct from bp, and will use them again.

I was quoted for 2 doors. 18x9 and 10x9. $15,500 & $10,500. That doesn't include a "web discount" of around $400.

That does include installation and remote operation.

That is pricey, but I have a feeling that I will do it anyway.

Quality insulated glass doors

I am putting in an all glass garage type door in a living space so I want the best looking hardware available, it seems that bp is a company that provides good hardware but does not provide insulated glass - needed in New England. Does anyone out there know of a company that provides both, the high quality hardware and insulated glass?

Great information about the doors. Does anyone out there know of companies that can customize garage doors for restaurant applications. We want to use an up and over door that is 16'x10'h that is thermally tight and that we can also attach wood to. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

For those looking for modern garage doors, we purchased 1 two car garage door and 1 single car garage door in acrylic with a brushed metal frame, and two new side wall mount garage door openers for about $5,900. We thought that was a pretty fair price.

We got them from Overhead Door in Houston. They did an excellent job, and we are extremely pleased.

I had read on this site that one door could cost as much as $10,000. So I was relieved when we got the total.

I think we, all of us, would like to see these manufcaturers create up and over doors. these doors rise outward on a hinge, creating an "awning" that protrudes to the exterior of the building rather than being drawn into the interior space. We need to minimize intrustion into our interior, often finished, spaces. Some manufacturers will tell you that on the east coast, because of snowfall, they can't sell them there. Yet, we have lots of carriage doors with the same issue: snow blocks them and they have to be dug out. Big deal. In Maryland it snows once or twice a year - a whopping 2 to 8". I digress. We need up and over doors not this other crappy mechanical solution with its ugly tracks and machines.

I have been looking at the Cloplay Avante Garage Doors for a while now however I have been running into problems with the new code in Florida. Cloplay can meet w5 wind code along with acrylic glass to meet the impact requirement however the dorr is only rated for +- 32 preasure. Our code requires a +- 35 preasure rating which accoriding to Home Deport and the other Cloplay dealers is not a option. I love the door and the price however I am having a hard time getting the preasure rating. Does anyone hae any ideas or have you ran into this in the past?

OK......everybody get a clue! There are only a few manufacturers of Glass Garage Doors on the market! Manufacturers mean the people who actualy make them! Not the small Mom & Pop door company in the yellow pages. The distributors buy from the cheap factories and sell in their local area.

I found out that BP - Glass Garage Doors are sold factory direct, ship anywhere in the USA, and will help find an installer in your area. All the others are cheap distributers that don't know anything about quality, and will sell whatever brand they have.

I read some of the "real comments" above and did my own research. I went to see some different brands in person. The Overhead brand, Amar, Clopay and Wayne Dalton are really cheap in quality. You can tell by looking at them. I see people talking about getting the best prices, and now see why they are less expensive. The best price sometimes means the worst quality and workmanship! I have been building for years and have learned from my mistakes about getting the best price vs. buying the best quality. The best quality always lasts longer and performs better!

I recommend these guys and also like that they have stainless hardware as a standard package, and can customize the design to anything I want. That comparison page helped alot with my research. I ordered my doors last week and can't wait to get them!

It isn't very often that things come out better than I imagined. In fact, it seems that more often the opposite is the case. Fortunately, when it comes to BP Brand Glass Garage Doors, the former is true. The paint matches the trim of my house perfectly, the construction is solid, and it operates smoothly and quietly. The doors are really a masterpiece of work! They are breathtakingly beautiful and so well made. What craftsmanship! I am totally impressed with BP's workmanship in manufacturing and, even more, the precise installation! Their installers were very impressive. These guys have such diligent & professional workers which are very hard to find these days. I've been through so many contractors and never met such a crew of perfection! My house is not a new one so I'm sure they had a hard time to make adjustments, but they did it so beautifully. I'm pretty sure to get many compliments from neighbors and ready to pass the name of BP.

The stainless steel hinges, rollers, and hardware were the quality I was looking for. But more that anything, its Absolutely Gorgeous! Aluminum Doors

I am a garage door dealer in the midwest and have competed against the BP product before. Many door companies such as Clopay, Wayne Dalton, Haas, Overhead Door, etc. can make an aluminum door just like the BP product. I have done two projects in which we matched the aluminum of the customers Pella Windows and a frosted insulated glass. It is obvious that California has caught onto this craze of all glass doors but it will not be long until you are seeing them across the country. They are more expensive but they pay for themselves in compliments and architectural flow/style.

I am a door dealer in Los Angeles for many years now and I am intimate with most of the extruded aluminum frame garage doors that can facilitate glass among other types of panels. Actual Facts - BP vs. Any Brand

I did some research as others have done above, and this is what I have found:
The "dealers" above, of course are trying to sell what they carry. They will bad mouth any other brand other than the one they represent and sell. Here is the BIG difference: BP is "Factory Direct" and they don't sell to dealers. This makes all dealers MAD, because they only sell directly to the End User, Contractor, Etc., but "not to dealers", who buy cheap products. They have their own Nationwide Installers, and my personal favorite, compare their door side by side with other brands.

I've been a High End Custom Builder for over 30 years, I don't contract cheap spec. houses. I've see cheap products and the very best! The best always lasts longer and performs better. End of story.

BP - Glass Garage Doors

I did the research, and it was not easy. Everyone thinks they are the best, but these guys realy are. The comparison page said it all. I also went to see some BP Doors in person, and the difference is huge. They look better, perform better, can be customized more, and I love the Lifetime Hardware Warranty. I bought this door, and designed it directly from the Factory. I'm very happy with it.

I have found that Glass Garage Doors by Martin have a FingerShield that protects fingers from crushing, dislocation, or amputation by covering section joints, taking the edge off the tracks, reducing holes in the track, and taking proactive measure to protect against possible injuries. I also think the 77 colors are also a bonus when looking for matching a home. Oh did I say you can design the door online too. If you can't tell I am a huge fan.

These Doors are super common Give me a call if your in California we can get these all day.... much cheaper than clopay... a world wide company that doesn't remotely care about you as a customer.. shipping is available but it is costly... what you really want to look at is our 300 series Stainless steel continuous sheet door.... About the greates glass doors out there

Look, first of all its called a full view door. because of its obvious appearance. second it comes in many glass options and from what I have installed alluminum channel construction. dont let the alluminum fool you It is a heavy door, and yes it is nice but I can get the same fulview door from many places and clopay would not be on the list secondly never heard of BP doors and we have probably installed 5000 doors in southern california... call me with your questions(714)552-9477

A few facts...

The stainless steel garage door track, hardware and springs were pioneered in the car wash and other highly corrosive, high cycle and high quality market arena's.

Stainless garage door hardware has been available for a decade with full view and other types of doors. If they make it in galvanized, it's made in high quality, classy, rust-proof stainless steel.

Polycarbonate, glass and other similar full view doors have been manufactured since the 70's in Canada. There are a number of manufacturer's that build full view doors in a variety of colors, designs and materials to meet just about any criteria.

A great site to check out is www.carwashdoors.com. They have been responsible for pioneering many of these products and have led the way for about 2 decades.

The site features polycarbonate doors, air-powered openers and stainless steel garage door track and hardware.

BP - Glass Doors vs. Any Other Glass Door

OK, this blog is getting rediculous. It is obvious that all these little Mom and Pop door companies that probably run our of their garage are trying to advertise there company. Get a life and get a clue! People are talking about Glass Garage Door Manufacturers, not the rinky dink companies that are selling their service out of their garage.

FYI, BP - Glass Garage Doors have been around for over 55 years and don't sell to mom and pop garage door companies in California, as they install direct, and ship to the rest of the nation!

And to the to guy above trying to sell car wash doors, nobody wants plastic polycarbonate panels, they are cheap, can be kicked in bu my 5 year old, and will fade like any other plastic in the sun! Very cheap!

Besides amar, martin door is the biggest peice of krap I have ever seen. Love those ugly strutts behind the glass that can be seen from a mile away! What idiot would buy that door? Oh, I know, the guy selling that peice of krap! Duh.......!

Bottom line, I have read all the comment above, some very stupid, and some very real, but the fact remains, BP - Glass Garage Doors have a very good product and are the only ones that have a comparison page that prove why they are better. I don't see any one else doing that!

The BP Glass Door website is nice. They've obviously done some good work. I am a door dealer in Southern Cal and am doing a competitive bid- a Martin Athena Glass Garage door against the BP Glass Door. The customer is very thoughtful and deliberate in this affair- that's my favorite kind of customer.

The specs of the thickness and weight of the BP door's aluminum is similar to the Martin door. They come clear anodized (silver aluminum) in color. Powder coat colors are optional. Martin's Athena Glass Garage door comes in nearly 80 different powder coat finishes- standard.

The BP door is 1 3/4" thick; Martin's is 2" thick. That is a big difference! The BP Stiles and rails are narrower in structure. This makes the door less structurally sound; yet they claim it makes the area of glass shown greater. That claim reminds me of the emperor's new clothes.

BP Doors has a "B" rating on the Better Business Bureau's website; due to unanswered complaints. My company has an A+.

The contractor's license for BP Doors was issued in 1998. Bryce Parker may have founded the company 50+ years ago, but the owner is someone else.

I'm sure BP does a reasonable job, and based on the above reviews, they've made several people happy. For what it's worth, you can look at my site at www.GetAMartin.com

To Brace above. If the Martin door is thicker, why does it need all the struts that make it look UGLY AS HELL? You can see them behind the glass. Are you stupid or something? Simple, the Martin door has a thinner wall thickness, making it extremely WEAK! On top of that, Martin doors look VERY UGLY and don't have the sleek design sought by most designers and Architects. There will always be imitators, and Martin is one of many.

Clopay & Other manufacturers

I'm from Clopay, so full disclosure here. Methinks BP protesteth too much when they disparage others. Not too professional. Each manaufacturer's design has its pluses and minuses and trade-offs and everyone has their preferences. My only suggestion is check them all out. Be sure you get tempered glass.

I must say that I am a little disappointed in the playground-styled rhetoric. If, in fact, the above statement is from a BP employee, that would clearly explain their low ratings on the BBB website. I appreciate the Clopay representative pushing for a level of professionalism. Thanks.

The wall thicknesses listed on BP's site of their aluminum extrusions are either the same as Martin's extrusions, or they are slightly thinner. Additionally, the 2" thick construction of the door is better in every way describable than 1 3/4"- or at least, it's a quarter inch better :)

The struts that Martin uses on the Athena Glass door are steel L-Struts. They are powder coated the same color as the door and are not visible through the glass from the outside. They look great on the inside and, again, aren't visible outside.

The factory can get me the product in a matter of two weeks because they've developed a steady and reliable way to build them.

It amazes me how different and varied customers are for these doors. From the beachfront homes, to suburbia, from the desert, to South LA and Compton (really), these doors are making homes everywhere.

Northwest or CHI doors?

I've been researching the various aluminum garage door options for a couple weeks. So far I've found these: BP (Bryce Parker), Clopay Avante, Martin Athena, Northwest Door Modern Classic, Overhead Door 511 (commercial), CHI 3290 (commercial), Raynor AlumaView, Wayne Dalton 451 (commercial), etc.

I've seen a couple BP doors in-person and they have narrow stiles and rails, which are very sleek. However, the quote I received from them is astronomical (almost $8K installed in the Bay Area for a 15x7 door). Also, their shameless self-promotion under the guise of actual homeowners on this blog and LiveModern kind of turns me off.

The most affordable choices seem to be the Northwest Modern Classic and CHI 3290 (each about $4K installed with opener for a 15x7).

The Northwest has very thick rails and stiles, resulting in a chunky look with less glass. Otherwise, I've heard it's a good quality door.

I haven't seen the CHI 3290 yet in-person, but based on its specs the intermediate rails and stiles are supposed to be 2" wide, which is comparable to the BP.

Anybody have any thoughts about Northwest or CHI?

I have to write and give a huge compliment to Bryce Parker; they've just finished a glass and Aluminum garage door for our house. I don't think I can stress how happy we are with the GREAT design, the soundproof door, and the level of service we experienced.
We fell in love with a door they did in our neighborhood and had to see if it would work on our house. Rob Reyes did the sales call and measured and was our point person throughout. We have an art deco house from the 30's and our garage was in serious need of some love from this century. This wasn't an ordinary replacement as nothing in our house is ordinary. Our frame wasn't even, our floor wasn't even and we had clearance problems. Rob solved our issues by framing out the door and adding cladding and weather stripping. We ordered it and the only painful part was waiting for it to be built. (We were excited) Brendon and his team installed over two days; and in my 5 years of home ownership truly I have never experienced the dedication, cleanliness and attention to detail from any vendor we've hired for anything till Brendon and his team installed. My husband and I actually clapped as they handed us our openers and they drove away. Cosmetically our house is drastically improved and we will be calling them to redo our front door soon! Hands down THE Best Experience I've ever had with any vendor!

Dear Customer, would you rather have an owner operator with over 5000 doors under there belt, licenced, bonded that is actually pays attention to what you care about and responds to you on your time. Or would you rather pay this fat clown for his 50 trucks, million dollar a year advertising budget and massive overhead, so that he can send a couple guys for 15 bucks an hour to do your $6,000-$10,000 install. Oh and by the way if your door wasn't installed right it's OK maybe they can fit you in the schedule next week. There is nothing wrong with MOM and POP companies as a matter of fact they tend to be the more honest companies out there... And in many cases the more knowledgeable... So with that said... try out your locally owned family company and see... Obviously make sure they are licensed and bonded, but please stop paying this fat clowns $3000 light bill...

So what are the technical matters re: using a garage door as a "window wall" in a house? I'm interested in the fairly temperate climate in Asheville NC and it seems OK as I've seen doors in the desert and in areas with heavy snowfall. Maybe they don't care about the electric bill? Enlighten me please.

Then I read the next comment about him--calling him a tool. The real tool is the person who can't recognize sarcasm when they see it. And that goes for all the folks in the Die Marcus Die fan club.

That aside, thanks Back on Topic for the info about Northwest. I actually prefer the chunkier look and have spent forever trying to find thick framed aluminum windows. Sort of the industrial/commercial feel

We are remodeling our house and have decided on glass garage doors which brought us to this site. It's clear to me that many of the comments in support of BP are obviously from PB employees, and they were quite unprofessional. Because of that we've eliminated BP from contention and have narrowed the list to 2 other manufacturers noted by others on this site.

Smart consumers with the means to be doing research on this product are intelligent enough to recognize a plant when they see one. BP is far removed from my list of companies with whom I will every allow myself or my associates to do business.

If you are planning a trip to the Windy City any time this year and love cool architecture, green building, technology and glass garage doors, check out the Chicago Museum of Science and Industry "Smart Home: Green + Wired" exhibit that just re-opened March 4 with a fresh new interior design. The home features two Clopay glass Avante Collection garage doors - one is a traditional garage door application; the second smaller door opens up to an outdoor patio. And FYI - I do work for Clopay, but this is a really neat exhibit from a design perspective and I highly recommend it.
